apparently to cross the ridge to the southern, ski basin side slope.
I decide to follow them.

The snow is about two feet deep, and I fall through it at almost every other step.
There are rivulets of melted snow running under the snow, eating up the the snow from beneath,
while the surface of the snow remains smooth.
The ground underneath is steep and rocky, and you can easily break an ankle.
(Should have a pole without a ring to try out the carrying capacity of the snow before stepping on it.)

I decide to follow the snowshoeman in order to meet the ski trail on the other side of the ridge.

Now even the snowshoeman's tracks vanish, and I head into this gloomy fairytale forest.
I decide to descend obliquely in order to meet the nearest ski trail with the least elevation difference
and in order to see if there are too steep places ahead, to avoid them by keeping my altitude or even climbing.
The strategy works well, and I wade straight onto the Sunset trail, without zigzagging like the snowshoeman.
